Volume 1 Issue 1

This first installment of the feature talks about the intersection of manga and the internet. It talks about the future of the column and how they expect it to host revamped editions of the best articles from www.j-pop.com. This section is expected to have in depth news and features on anime, manga, fashion, food, video games.

Volume 2 Issue 1

This installment is titled “How i learned to stop worrying and love dragon ball”. It talks about the evolution of the series that ran from 1984 to 1995. Beginning as a story about a boy’s adventure and spawning into multiple action/adventure movies, video games and 444 tv episodes. In March of 98 the English version of the series was about to be released, divided up into Dragon Ball (volume 1) and Dragon Ball Z (volume 17). It also talks a little about Toriyama’s older work Dr. Slump and how it compares with Dragon Ball. The article calls the series the ultimate example of the action and sports comic genre.

Volume 2 Issue 2

This month everything is about fashion trends. It is titled “Tribes of Tokyo: Japanese youth fashion culture”. It gives a brief history of street fashion going back to the 60’s. In the last few years there have been two major distinct trends in street fashion. One is wearing premium items, and the other is mimicking celebrities. Young people are thrifting items and then highlighting those outfits with new clothes to make a unique look. The article mentions a few brands of note being Levi’s 501XX jeans (can cost 2-3000 USD), Nike Airmax ‘95 and G-Shock watches.
