Manga Anthologies
I have fallen in love with manga anthologies. This is how manga is released in Japan. Magazines with multiple titles showcasing one or two chapters of each at a time. I like the art better than inside a standard tankobon because of the size. Magazine size is what everything was originally drawn for, not the smaller dimensions of tankobon. America has had a few anthologies printed and I have been trying to collect all the ones that have printed titles from Japan. There are also a few that have printed original manga but I have not gotten into those at this time. Below I am working on tracking my progress for each title and the covers I own.
Shojo Beat
Shonen Jump
I am also thinking of adding Yen plus and Manga Jin to the list of items to collect. Manga Jin is listed as a magazine for students of the Japanese language, but it did include some manga including the series Where’s Michael. Yen plus is an anthology style magazine but has a mix of originals, manga and manhwa. It did have two series (Black Butler and Soul Eater) I love run in it though, so it is inching towards inclusion. Tokyo Pop is a title I am not sure about adding to the list. Mixx Zine was renamed Tokyo Pop but it drifted away from printing manga and became all stories about manga, anime and culture. I have been unable to find any information about actual manga printed inside the magazine.
